IPMAI – Interpretable prescriptive maintenance with Artificial Intelligence
The European policy aims to advance the global leadership role of the European industry. AI plays a central role in this and holds enormous potential. Making the benefits of AI accessible to SMEs in a profitable way is therefore the motivation of IPMAI.
The goal of IPMAI is to significantly simplify maintenance through explainable AI for all industrial production plants with gearboxes. With IPMAI, it will be possible to use AI not only to determine maintenance needs but also to optimize operations. The approach of IPMAI is innovative due to its AI-generated explanations, in terms of user acceptance, and because of the use of the gearbox as a general wear indicator.
For a better understanding of this innovation: Machines consist of a variety of components powered by a gearbox. Previously, all these components had to be monitored separately. The innovation of IPMAI lies in the fact that now only the gearbox needs to be considered to detect any maintenance needs for other machine parts powered by this gearbox (e.g., high friction of a driven component due to poor lubrication). This reduces costly repairs and increases the product lifecycle of machines. The novel maintenance system for production machines with gearboxes also provides explanations for their optimal use, thus facilitating technicians and machine operators in handling the maintenance system. This increases the acceptance of novel AI systems and enables such tasks to be performed even by moderately trained personnel.
Consortium:
For IPMAI, a consortium has been assembled from all six regions of the program area, bringing together all the necessary expertise. Furthermore, it ensures that the results and the mentioned AI-related changes in industry and society are disseminated in all regions of the Interreg AT-CZ program area.
The consortium consists of the following organizations:
- Software Competence Center Hagenberg GmbH (Leadpartner) (https://www.scch.at/ )
- University of Applied Science Upper Austria, Research and Development GmbH (https://fh-ooe.at/en )
- AC2T research GmbH (https://www.ac2t.at/en/ )
